Come along to this event, suitable for everyone interested in environmental biodiversity and climate change. Dave will be discussing his role as a fire ranger, explaining the importance of the blanket bog and the deep peat, and how the restoration of the blanket bog and raising the water table is linked with an increase in biodiversity, an increase in resilience to drought and an increase in the resilience to fire.
Set within the Peak District National Park, Dove Stone is a dramatic landscape that's home to an array of wildlife. This is a place to spot Curlews, Golden Plover and Mountain Hare on open moorland and blanket bog, or Peregrine Falcons and Ravens soaring over old quarry cliffs. In the winter, Mountain Hares stand out in their white winter coats as they sunbathe on the rocks above the path leading up to Chew reservoir.
The area under the care of the RSPB reaches behind Saddleworth Church. We recognise the importance of protecting our local biodiversity by caring for and protecting the churchyards which are situated within the upland landscape.
Parking is on site and there is disabled access to the church.
