SUMMARY:Talking Tools
DESCRIPTION:Talking Tools is an intervention designed to help families develop their child’s communication skills. It aims to strengthen children’s speech\, language\, and communication skills while building parents and carers’ confidence in supporting their child’s development at home. The intervention involves working closely with parents and carers\, focusing on one key strategy each week. These strategies are simple and practical\, making them easy for families to use in everyday routines and play.  \nTalking Tools is a group intervention delivered by a Best Start Family Hub Practitioner\, consisting of six hour-long weekly sessions — one in the home\, four in a Best Start Family Hub\, and one session in the local library. Parents will be encouraged to practise the strategies from the sessions at home with their child. The intervention can be completed when a child is 15 to 18 months of age and upwards\, until they enter a childcare setting. A family is usually referred to Talking Tools after a WellComm Assessment if speech\, language\, and communication differences have been identified. \nThese sessions are by referral only. To learn more\, contact your local Best Start Family Hub.
