This extraordinary lady ran a care home for orphans on Howarth St. on Oldham Edge for approx. 30 years. Working for Oldham Council she created an environment which was happy and creative for many children, actively engaging them in music, hobbies and outdoor pursuits. Using a 12 seater minibus from the council she drove them around Britain from the Highlands of Scotland touring Wales down to the South Coast of England.
Her children are grown up and are scattered across the UK now. One of the kids says "She was a very tough yet loving personality". I find her story inspiring and she is a fine example for others. She is now 97 years old and in a care home. I am proud to say she is our aunt.
Do you know someone extraordinary. Why not tell their story?
