This is to nominate my husband Major Eddy Hardaker. Eddy had a humble beginning and was born in Oldham and lived in Limeside and Fitton Hill growing up. He joined the army as a boy soldier after leaving Breeze Hill school in 1979 and has risen to the rank of Major, he has and continues to serve his country well. He lives in Oldham and is still serving with 75 Engineer Regiment based in Warrington.
As well as his full time work with the army, he is a Trustee of a local charity raising funds for those not in the best of health, he is a member of the Mayors charity fundraising committee. He has served as a school governor and continues to support the Oak Trust in Chadderton as a volunteer and Trustee. Eddy is President of the Royton branch of the Royal British Legion and is on the admin team of the Oldham Armed Forces Breakfast club supporting our Oldham Veterans. Last year he spent time raising funds in order to deliver a Christmas Meal to Veterans in Oldham feeding 67 members in the company of the Mayor and other civic guests.
He spends hours promoting Remembrance and organising various activities in November every year, this includes holding a special service for nursery and primary school children so they understand Remembrance. In his spare time which is rare, he watches his beloved Man Utd at Old Trafford. Eddy is a proud of his Oldham roots and loves to help with the young people of this town reach their true potential. Approaching his 46 year of military service he refused the offer of retirement last year as he still believes he has much more to offer. A true example of public service but a family man who has not forgot his Oldham roots.
Do you know someone extraordinary. Why not tell their story?
